We moved to Spain several years ago and one thing I would recommend is not trying to solve everything at once. Housing, healthcare registration and paperwork are much easier when tackled step by step. If possible, spend a few weeks in the area before committing long-term. It helps avoid surprises and gives you a better feel for daily life.

Before buying, I would strongly recommend renting in the area for a few months. Many people fall in love with a location during holidays, but everyday life can be very different. Also, check local community fees, property taxes and the availability of services throughout the year.

Valencia is also on my list of interesting places in Spain. I'll follow this discussion with interest. Looking forward to hearing the experiences of people already living there.

We moved to Valencia two years ago from the UNITED STATES. Absolutely love it. We had an attorney help us with residence application for faster process. The cost was reasonable 350€ . The private insurance can be a little hard to find after age 70 and it is require for your visa. We rented an apt in the city center close to everything but I fill we could have gotten much lower rent . Also the realtor that help us charged one months rent plus 3 percent additional. I don’t know if that is the case with all realtors. I do recommend to rent before you purchase a property.
